I have missed my crafting time! I really need to do more crafts. The creative process has helped me so much in the past whenever I needed a little ME time or Therapy as I call it. I just celebrated another birthday and althought I don't feel a day or year older than a month ago, I still see that I am putting myself last again on my priority list as I reflect on the past year. So I want to set a new goal for myself. I NEED my craft/Me Time! So I am going to make myself a sticky note and do my best to complete ONE project a week. Be it a card or a layout or a home decor item or something using my craft supplies that are sitting in my corner of my basement living room.

Here is my first project, a layout, long overdue of my precious little
miracle girl who is turning three next month. This photo is of her on
her first Sunday all dressed up in her first dress ready to go out into
public for the first time and attend church with us as a family. (sorry, lighting is bad, so need a new camera, should have asked for it as a birthday present... oh well..)

I used a Creative Challenge from Susan K. Weckessar as my inspiration for my layout.

http://mysweetearth.blogspot.ca/2013/02/create-to-live-february-challenge.html

Susan gave us this picture to use as inspiration in any way for our creative projects for the month of February.

I used the overall picture Susan gave as a template for my layout design overall, the title blocks copied in my title, the colors of red, pink, blue, green and cream behind the letters were in my title too and the background paper, and the floral theme in some buttons, brads, silk flower and the background patterned paper.

Thanks Susan for being an inspiration in my creative attempts!

One week done in my new goal... :o)
I can't believe I have not kept up with coming here and blogging more. I told myself to do better at this, I really wanted to, yet here it is the middle of November and almost the end of another year and I have not done what I wanted with this blog of mine.

I spent a couple days with my mom this past week helping her at her house with her Christmas Decorations and her Christmas Tree. It seems like just yesterday that I was there doing it for last year... time really does fly by. Not sure if time and my days are flying by because I have a two year old I need to keep up with and enjoy so much? Ya, I think that is it. She is my joy. I keep taking photos of her as she grows and learns so many new things. I just need to be patient with myself and know that spending the time with her as she is growing is more important than blogging and doing actual scrapbook pages with all the photos I have taken. There is a BIG print job waiting with my digital camera card! LOL!

So with the Christmas Season fastly approaching, I suddenly feel overwhelmed with projects I WANT to do, some things I NEED to do, and another things are a MUST do. Time to start at making a dent in that list. Sorry, but blogging is just not a MUST do thing I suppose. We will see,... One step at a time!

Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-28257935914441117442012-07-22T21:51:00.001-06:002012-07-22T21:51:17.845-06:00Cleaning up my Scrap pile! And while I was at at, I put together two cards with some of the left over pieces of Core'Cardstock and some supplies I had out still from this Online Crop. I used the mini challenges I missed out on for the timed challenges on Saturday, which I missed as I was away from home.

One Card using the Outline technique, lay chipboard under the cardstock and sand the top of the cardstock to reveal the outline of the chipboard.

One Card using a tag, stamping, stitching, button, and sanding/tearing. The button was "stitched" onto the card by hand with needle and gold thread and also tried to hand stitch a zig zag in top corner by hand.

So, if I add everything up, I did all 13 main challenges and all 4 mini challenges (but two not submitted within the time limit)! Yeah! That's 5 cards, seven 12x12 layouts, and seven 8.5x11 layouts! Oh and Marilee's bonus tag of course with is still proudly displayed on our fridge! Now if only I can keep this up and keep scrapping each day, then maybe, just maybe, one day I will get "caught up"!Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-38003183967277776382012-07-22T20:38:00.001-06:002012-07-22T20:38:33.679-06:0013 Main Challenges for the Hard Core Online Crop are DONE! Whew! I managed to do them all!

Here is the last one, it is a scoring challenge. We were to score our cardstock with three different designs and also score an embellishment.

I wanted to make 3-d stars but didn't have a star punch or diecut on my cricut, so I punched a couple of burgandy 5 petal flowers. Then I scored them across the middle of each petal to the inner point between the petals straight across the flower, repeated for each petal, and then gently folded and tada! IT worked, they looked like stars BUT would not stay down in the folded form once I tried added a pop dot adhesive foam. I still like them.

I also traced a punched circle to score the inner circle of my scalloped circle punches. Scoring the rectangles was fun, even if I was just using a stylus and my paper trimmer track. This technique almost makes me want to run out and buy a scoring tool/board.

All my colored cardstock was from the Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Collection. Chipboard Title and accents are from Soft Spoken, MAMBI. Miscellaneous buttons and floss.

I've had a great week scrapbooking. Thank You Core'dinations and designers again for hosting this crop!

Now, looking at my table and the pile of cardstock scraps, perhaps I will go quickly try to make a couple more cards that would fit the extra quick timed challenges I missed on Saturday, just for fun! I have an hour or so left in the crop, even if they won't count for anything. Might as well now that I have this pile of scraps! :o)
Had to get it out and onto paper!

The color challenge of the Core Crop made me think of some Christmas papers I had scraps of and that brought these photos of my daughter exploring the Christmas tree and the bright packages underneath for her First Christmas. (told you I was behind in her books, she is two now). So I grabbed that scrap patterned paper, and the photos, some Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Collection Cardstock, a left over piece of blue Fancy Pants Refreshed Collection Cardstock, a border punch, my Fancy Pants Tradition Collection Rub Ons and Glitter cuts, and a Making Memories Note-worthy journal page ... threw it all together and ...

It's Christmas in July!Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-8017576036584594772012-07-21T23:21:00.001-06:002012-07-21T23:21:09.102-06:00Ok. One more layout challenge done before going to bed to rest my tired body. This was another sketch challenge given to us in the Core'dinations Hard Core Online Crop. I loved this sketch, looked easy and found three photos to use and had some colors of the Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Collection Cardstock left that I thought went with the photos well, even used up some of the cardstock scraps and a diecut I made that I had left over from previous Core Crop projects. I found a piece of patterned paper to accent the cardstock and photos with, and put it all together and this is what I came up with! The lighting isn't great on the photo so colors look a little off, but what can you expect for taking photos at 11 pm at night!

So, that leaves me with two more challenges and one more day to do them in. Not sure if I will make it as my Sunday is busier than normal. But I am happy and pleased to have this many pages done in these past 5 days. Good Night for Now!Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-16407074505714705882012-07-21T16:44:00.001-06:002012-07-21T16:44:49.799-06:00Earlier this morning ...

As I was beginning my Saturday, I couldn't get this idea for the sketch challenge of the Core'dinations Core Crop out of my head. I had the idea and knew which photo I wanted to use, and knew which core cardstock papers from the Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Collection I had that would work, so as my mind kept wandering about all I had to accomplish today and what I really WISH I could just sit and do all day (scrap of course) ... I put this layout together quickly. Photo mat was in my paper scraps so I don't know where the patterned paper came from. The Ribbon is from Forever in Time Scrapbook Collection. The rub-ons are from Fancy Pants "Tradition" collection.

Simple and "flat", but I like it! The photo lighting does not help, this looks much better in person! And wow, look how "small" Marilee was. I can't believe how fast time is flying by! This was her first Christmas, at 9 months old, a year and half ago, and yes, I am behind by that much in her scrapbooks! Good thing I joined an online crop to get me motivated!

I took a few minutes out of my afternoon to create a quick card. This was inspired by another core cropper named Megan, I used her card as a guide, inspiration for the layout of my card. This was for a quick challenge, we were given an hour to complete the project. Here is my card.
So with the pile of scraps of the Fancy Pants Refreshed Collection Core'dination Cardstock, I thought of making baby cards as a few friends are expecting soon. So the "use cardstock only" challenge was the pick for a project to use up those scraps. I used my cricut to cut out the die cuts (DoodleCharms and New Arrival). Thanks for stopping in and having a look!
This Challenge was to be inspired by Pinterest, the Core'dinations Core Creations Board Pins to be specific. So I searched the boards and came to this layout to use as inspiration for a layout for my son's book.

http://pinterest.com/pin/163044448979134473/

And here is my layout:

My son's scrapbooks are 8.5x11 size. I used Color Core Cardstock from the Tim Holt's & Ranger Distress Pack (the dark brown letters MMM and light brown behind photos which I ran through my crimper and sanded). The paisley and checked papers are from the Fancy Pants Refreshed Collection Core Cardstock Pack. I hand made the marshmallows from scraps. Thanks for looking!Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-81248328350669567722012-07-20T15:16:00.002-06:002012-07-20T15:17:46.697-06:00Beach Babe part Two:

After taking care of errands this morning, I sat down to create another scrapbook page. I happen to have a lot of photos of Marilee's first beach/lake experience from last summer. I started those with my Beach Babe page and knew I would need a second page to add more photos of that day. So, I picked another Core Crop Challenge and picked up my left over scraps from the Core Cardstock Fancy Pants Refreshed collection and went to work. This challenge was about tags, using them and journaling on them. So here is page two of Beach Babe ...

I added a couple of big tags, upside down there and a smaller tag for some journaling points.

Scrapbooking with Marilee running around and wanting to help me has been ... well... fun! At two she is learning new words all the time and she comes to the photos and points and names herself and her cousins and also likes saying "pretty" so that makes me smile and happy to have her with me. This Tag Challenge had a second bonus challenge involved. We were encouraged to include our children with the creative process. So I used an extra tag I made, and an extra photo of little Marilee at the beach, and put Marilee to work with her own creation. She was water color painting the other day while I was trying to scrapbook, so we added a bit of her picture torn up as the background mat under her photo on the core cardstock tag. Here she is at work, and she LOVES butterflies, it's her "thing"!
Tickles me Pink to see her budding creative side!

Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-42967268334415688542012-07-19T21:47:00.002-06:002012-07-22T11:33:47.918-06:00It's time to take a step back into my scrapbooks. I really miss creating pages. These past few years have been busy and busy and I really need to make the time for me to have some creative time, for myself. So I joined the Core'dinations Hard Core Online Crop Challenge. The master list of challenges is here: Master List

The one requirement was that we had to use Core'dinations Color Core Cardstock on each project. This is awesome cardstock that has a color core in it so if you like sanding and tearing and distressing techniques, this is the cardstock to have. I didn't have any of this cardstock until the end of April when I just happened to win a Core'dinations and Spellbinders prize pack from Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine online (facebook) contest.

The Cardstock paper packs I have used here from Core'dinations are Tim
Holtz&Ranger Distress Collection and Core Impressions Fancy Pants
Refresh Collection. Thanks again Core'dinations for these great
cardstock papers!

So you see, this crop came about and I had the perfect reason to get creative and share my Thanks to Core'dinations by joining their online Crop! (If I happen to win some more Core Paper for participating in this online crop, then I will get to keep on having fun with these wonderful cardstock lines! It's a bonus!)

I got so excited as the challenges were posted. I pulled out some photos and got busy!

1. Ad Inspiration Challenge- The ad had lots of hexagon shapes with icons inside relating to the theme of the ad. I wanted to add some images and words about my son's High School, but as I was trying to cut them out of his handbook, I could not get them into hexagon images. So I changed it to rectangles!

3. Antiquing (crumple and sand) - I misted the cardstock with a bit of water first, it really helps when crumpling such a large piece of cardstock. It also helps to flatten it back out again, I rolled it with my rolling pin between a couple of paper towels while still damp to help dry and flatten for scrapping with without loosing all those lovely distressed crumpling lines for sanding. Wait until dry to sand though or you really take of the top layer of the cardstock! I hand cut and embossed the sun too.
7. Die Cut Challenge with pop, dimensional adhesives - Again used my cricut for the easter basket and eggs and the title. Rabbit is a sticker I coated the back with baby powder so I could use it like a diecut and add the dimensional adhesive squares to make it pop off the page too.
Yes, that is 8 pages, 7 challenges done! There are 6 more challenges listed for this online crop and I have two more days to fit them in. I challenged myself to TRY to get at least one entry for each challenge done, if I have the supplies I need on hand. So far, so good! Half way through the crop event and half way done the challenges. Yeah for Me!
I can't believe my little baby girl will be turning 2 years old tomorrow. It is time to do some Spring Cleaning! I have a LONG LONG list of things that I keep saying I'm going to get to, and well, now it's about time to recommit myself to getting around to it! One day at a time, one task at a time! I Think I like spring cleaning resolutions much better than the New Year's resolutions. Maybe it has to do with the pressure everyone puts on New years time to make and keep resolutions. But now, the spring weather, sunny days, and such, seem to brighten the outlook on life and what you want to accomplish each day. Much easier to be positive with sun shining through the window than winter cold making you shiver at the thought of looking out a window. So, here's to making changes, cleaning house, and reorganizing life in general! Happy Spring! and Happy Birthday to my little miracle, Marilee!Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-78268937050351888292012-02-09T19:39:00.000-07:002012-02-09T19:39:14.527-07:00Valentine Treat for myself!I went ahead and got out a small rubbermaid box from under my stairs that was labelled valentine's day decorations. Inside I found some items that I have had for years that friends have given me or I made myself that I just could not part with yet. Well, there was this one wreath made by my high school best friend that well, needed a new lease on life.

So, as a treat for myself, and hopefully my family will also enjoy, I recycled the ribbons and wooden hearts to make a new valentine work of art for our walls. I will always remember the wooden hearts are from my friend, and now I have a new valentine creation for this years celebration.
Happy Valentine's Day!
I truly believe that our problems, trials, don't feel so "heavy" when we can serve others or find ways to help others instead of ourselves. So here's one of the Random acts of Kindness I am doing this season, and this one involved my family.

I handmade some door hangers using scrapbook and Christmas craft supplies to surprise some unsuspecting members of the community. I convinced my family to take a drive around town with me to see all the lights and decorations (at night). I asked my teenage son and my husband to each pick 3 houses they liked to award one of these door hangers too. My one year old daughter and I took care of the others. We left these hangers on those houses' doors as a surprise. On the back we wrote, "Thank you for making the season Merry and Bright. We enjoyed your decorations tonight."
This was a wonderful, heartwarming, and fun experience for my family.Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-87643366795365894092011-11-07T18:02:00.001-07:002012-02-09T19:46:30.617-07:00Getting Creative Can Cure the Blahs!Yes, I was feeling blah this past week and weekend. I wanted to do something to get out of it but was struggling finding the right thing. Then I decided to put my own needs and the needs of my household out of my mind and sit down to make some cards for neighbors who were having various "blahs" of their own. So I tried to chase away the "winter is coming" blues, troubling buying a new home frustrations, and celebrated the coming arrival of a new little girl (not so much a bad blah) by making some cards using up some scraps and recycling products of past projects (altered trading card/rolodex card) and using a couple new stamps and new Ranger distress candy and stickles. Yes, my day got brighter, my own blahs were left behind for the day. Doing something for others, just for the fun of it sure can make our own troubles seem less important, and more manageable.
It is Easter weekend. I decided to recycle some of the baby food jars and containers we have piling up to make little easter treat jars for little Marilee to give out to our family this weekend at our Williams family dinner. If I had started them sooner, I would have painted the lids so I didn't see the metal rims. Oh well, for a quick two day project working around a very active and inquisitive one year old, I think they turned out cute. I played with paper scraps, ribbons, stickers, stamps and a variety of glue to try to get these done. Happy Easter to all my family and friends.
I'm sitting here at my conputer and just looked up to my calendar. This rainbow quote is printed there. Sometimes life can be hard and we question why we have trials and hardships, difficult things to deal with that happen to us or those we love. We want to have "rainbows" instead. I remember when I was around 15 I wrote a poem that had the basic message that we have trials and strife because if we didn't we would have a boring life with nothing to do. Even though having a day without anything going wrong would seem like a welcome blessing, having every day like that might indeed get boring. So, we need to look for the positives, go jump in puddles, enjoy the raindrops as they fall. The rest of the message on my calendar pages says "By overcoming adversity, we find the joy in everything."
So, as we wait for the results of the two days of testing with Robert and more questionaires and information the team of doctors got from Dale and I, life will go on, day by day. I hope I'll see rainbows everyday and will try to look for them as I live each day, step by step.Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-50102157663123322712011-04-04T18:00:00.000-06:002011-04-04T18:00:37.200-06:00Busy busy busy...I can't believe we are into April already. Time sure flies. Little Marilee made some first steps this past week towards potty training. Yes, she has been going pee in her new potty (when Mommy catches her at the right time), and today, she also went ... the other thing...! Yes, Both ends made a deposit into her potty this morning and she and I celebrated by clapping our hands and then calling Grandma Pilling to give her a report. The rest of my day today is being spent getting ready to travel to Calgary tomorrow for two days. Robert has tests to do at the Children's Development Center with various doctors. We hope these tests will give us some answers into understanding Robert and his behaviors better. Cody, our dog, is going to a new dog-day care center to stay while we are away. Marilee, Robert, and I are just getting over our colds and now Dale is getting cold symptoms. Oh Dear. Hope all that we have to do this week we will do safely, and hope we can all be healthy and happy too while we are away. Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-57911368974612889542011-03-25T20:44:00.000-06:002011-03-25T20:44:31.236-06:00Busy Week in reviewWOW! The week has flown by with something happening every day. Trips to pet groomers and vet for vaccine updates for our cocker spaniel, first birthday celebrations for our little ballerina, Marilee who turned one (where has the year gone?), and visits to doctors office and then health clinic for Marilee too for first year check up and then vaccinations. To top it off, our son Robert got sick and stayed home from school these past two days. Now I'm also getting sick. Oh and we also had a visit to the Optomitrist in there somewhere with the whole family getting eye exams and Robert and I needing new perscriptions/glasses. I went to pick up my new glasses today and took Robert along because I was sure they said on phone both pairs were in, but Robert's were not done. So, now I'm getting used to the supposedly correct perscription for my eyes with these new glasses and have a headache because of the adjustment on top of already feeling achey and yucky from this throat and nose cold setting in. YUCK! I hope little Marilee doesn't get sick too. I guess I might not know if it would be a reaction from the vaccinations or if she got sick from me is she develops any symptoms. All in all.. it's just been another crazy week in my life and I only got through it one day and one step at a time as usual.Marylouhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00357685429161498716noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3826571764067414228.post-20004648586587397022011-03-15T22:22:00.000-06:002011-03-15T22:22:01.037-06:00Step by Step<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">In wondering whether or not to become a "blogger", I've learned a few things; most importantly, this is not a quick process.
